BYOD Monitoring & Security

In order to use the UWS BYOD network, you must install and activate a certificate on your device.

The certificate is required for filtering and monitoring of your internet activity while on the UWS network. This included any apps you have installed on your device that might use this connection.

To install the security certificate onto your personal device, click on the button below to download the certificate and follow the instructions below for your device.

  1. Click the Download Certificate button
  2. When prompted, click on Install to start the certificate installation wizard
  3. Select Current User on the wizard
  4. Pick Place all certificates in the following store and then click on Browse
  5. In the browse window, choose Trusted Root Certification Authorities and click OK
  6. Click Next and then click Finish to close the wizard
  1. Click the Download Certificate button
  2. Save the certificate into your downloads
  3. Open up Keychain Access app on your Mac device, select either the login or System keychain.
  4. Drag or import the certificate from the downloads onto the Keychain Access app
  5. Check the CA certificate can be trusted by clicking on the green ‘+’ symbol, you might need to open the certificate file and click on Always Trust
  6. You should now be connected to our BYOD wireless
  1. Click the Download Certificate button
  2. Go to Menu > Settings
  3. Expand Show advanced settings
  4. Go to HTTPS/SSL and click Manage certificates
  5. Go to Authorities and click Import
  6. Navigate to your download directory and select the file you downloaded earlier
  7. Select Trust this certificate for identifying websites
  8. Click OK
  9. Click Finished and close the settings tab
  1. Click the Download Certificate button
  2. When prompted, click Install and a message will pop up to say to say it has been downloaded and install from the settings
  3. Once the certificate is installed. Go to Settings and click on Profile Downloaded button and follow the on-screen instructions. Note: If you do not see the Profile Downloaded button in settings, then you will need to download the certificate again but directly from Safari browser.

To make sure the certificate has been installed correctly, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings > General > About > Certificate Trust Settings
  2. Make sure UWS Smoothwall CA 2024 is toggled as enabled
  3. If you are a previous wireless user at UWS, make sure you untoggle UWS Smoothwall CA 2022 as this certificate is now expired

Note: These instructions may vary depending on the type of Android operating system you have installed on your device.

  1. Click the Download Certificate button
  2. Save the certificate into your downloads on your device, you will need to give it a name and you will need to upload this later on
  3. Open up Settings > Security > Encryption & Credential > Install a Certificate
  4. Select CA Certificate
  5. Locate the certificate you’ve named in the downloads
  6. Install the certificate & follow the on-screen instructions

Note: Make sure ‘Apps/VPN’ is selected in the drop down and you should now be connected to our BYOD wireless

  1. Click the Download Certificate button
  2. When prompted, click on Install to start the certificate installation wizard
  3. Select Current User on the wizard
