The Leadership Academy
The Leadership Academy has been developed for students in Years 8 and 9 who have been individually selected for their leadership skills and sporting ability.
There are 12 events over the academic year, in which the local primary schools come together at Upper Wharfedale School to compete in various sporting activities.
With the support of Ian Simons, from North Yorkshire County Council, the young leaders run the events. They organise the warm up activities, referee the matches, keep score and encourage the competing children.
Thursday 10 October 2019 saw the second event of the Leadership Academy calendar, which was football. The young leaders did an incredible job of keeping everyone’s spirits up in the very damp conditions!
The next event is on 26 November 2019 and involves a variety of activities to encourage young people to get active.
The Leadership Academy is a fantastic opportunity for our students to develop their leadership and organisational skills and helps to build a skill set which they can take into adult life.
