School transport for students in catchment is organised by North Yorkshire Council (NYC) Passenger Transport Team, and further information can be found on the NYC website.

Is my child eligible for free school transport?

NYC provide free school transport to Upper Wharfedale School if it is the catchment school or nearest school to your home and is over 3 miles walking distance away or where the route to the school is not safe to walk. NYC will automatically assess students eligibility and will send a bus pass to your home address if you are eligible.

Further information about eligibility can be found on the following link: School transport for reception to year 11 children | North Yorkshire Council

If a student is not entitled to free school transport, please see our paid bus pass information below.

What time are the buses?

To check the times of the bus services for students eligible for free transport, please follow the link to the NYC website: Bus timetables | North Yorkshire Council

Timetables for students who have purchased bus passes can be found below:

Can I drive my child to school?

You are able to drop your child off at school but we politely request that you stay outside of the school grounds as there is no room in the car parks due to school buses and staff arriving. We also request that you are considerate of our neighbours and park respectfully on the residential streets.

Frequently Asked Questions

Students can apply for a paid bus pass if they are not entitled to free school transport to a school.

Please contact the UWS Office via our contact us form so we can advise you of your available options.

We currently only accept payment online by direct debit. Payment details will be taken during application, and you will be given the option to pay the full amount or by monthly direct debit. The first payment is taken in September, with the final payment taken in June. Payment will only be taken if your application is successful.

We will review and check the availability of your chosen service(s) and once approved, a permit will be issued. Payment will then be taken.

If you have submitted your application after the deadline, it may take up to two weeks to process.  This means if the term has started you may need to make your own arrangements until you receive your child’s bus pass.

We have calculated the number of seats required and expect there to be more than enough seats available. We will however, confirm your child’s place on the bus via email on Friday 5 July 2024.

Visit North Yorkshire Council to check which buses serve your area and when.

If you no longer require your bus pass you must email admin@uws.n-yorks.sch.uk with the students name, route and payment reference number. You must also return your pass to us as soon as possible.

To cancel a paid bus pass, the pass or passes must be returned to us. You will remain responsible for the cost of the permit until the date we receive it.

When the form goes live you will need details of the bus service you want to apply for, and your bank account details.
