The department is celebrating after receiving the Geographical Association (GA) Centre of Excellence Award and the British Council’s International School Award.
Adam Jackson, the Threshfield school’s head of Geography, accepted the centre of excellence award at a ceremony in London hosted by the Geographical Association. It is one of just ten schools in the world to receive the award this year.
He said: “This award is a testament to the hard work and passion of both staff and students in making Geography come alive in our classrooms. We strive to inspire curiosity about the world, and this recognition confirms we are achieving that goal.”
The GA Centre of Excellence Award is given to schools that demonstrate exceptional teaching and innovative learning approaches in Geography. The department had to showcase best practices, curriculum development, and student engagement in Geography.
The school has also received the British Council’s International School Award, which celebrates institutions that embed international learning into their curriculum. It reflects the department’s efforts in developing global partnerships, incorporating cross-cultural projects, and ensuring students gain a broader understanding of worldwide issues.
Students at Upper Wharfedale School have benefited from a range of exciting initiatives, including international collaborations, fieldwork experiences, and interactive lessons that bring Geography to life. With these awards, the department is now recognized as a leader in geographical education, both nationally and internationally.
